Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) ranked 15th in the world for its role in poverty eradication, Times Higher Education rankings

The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2021 assesses the performance of universities worldwide in support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with more than 1,200 universities from 98 countries worldwide participating.

The overall score results show that the Asian Institute of Technology is considered an international graduate institution in Thailand, ranked in the Top 101-200 and has 5 categories that won the Top 100 as follows:
Ranked 15th in SDG1 – NO POVERTY or Eradicate Poverty
In the past, the institute has awarded research on poverty, financial assistance, and projects to combat poverty at both the university and community levels. For this goal, AIT has long been recognized for preparing educational opportunities for students from countries experiencing poverty, creating and developing successful graduates who have returned to eliminate poverty in their own countries. Last year, AIT ranked 19th in the world in this SDG1 as well.

Ranked 58th in SDG17 – PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS or Partnerships for Sustainable Development
The university was awarded top marks for its use of relationships and collaboration with global partners to support the achievement of the SDGs, as well as for its publication of sustainable development reports. The university was also recognised for its research and education for sustainable development, a goal that is mandatory for all universities in the rankings.

Ranked 64th in SDG14 – LIFE BELOW WATER or the utilization of oceans and marine resources.
From the results of the Institute’s continuous support for education and activities related to aquatic ecosystems, research on SDG14, maintenance of local ecosystems, and disposal of waste that affects water quality.

Ranked 67th in SDG2 – ZERO HUNGER or Zero Hunger
This goal is part of a global effort to create food security, and AIT has been recognized for its graduates in agriculture, its student hunger-reduction program, its research on SDG2, its national hunger-reduction program, and its food waste management efforts. Last year, the institute was ranked 86th in this category.
Ranked 80th in SDG15 – LIFE ON LAND or the use of terrestrial ecosystems
AIT excels in supporting education in terrestrial ecosystems, waste management and disposal, promoting terrestrial ecosystem-related activities and operations, and research on SDG15.

In addition, the Asian Institute of Technology has been ranked in the Top 200 for its performance in SDG6 – CLEAN WATER AND SANITIZATION, SDG7 – AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY, and SDG11 – SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES.
