Do we need a goal in life? It may be a bit difficult to find the answer, but if we change the question to something else, what will happen to our lives if we don’t have a goal?
A person who has no goals, how will his life end?
We have probably seen or maybe experienced the same thing, right? At some point in our lives, we work day by day, live day by day, or do the same thing over and over again, living a life of boredom and lack of excitement. Some people have serious symptoms and eventually lose their passion for work.
Not having a goal is like letting our own life go as it is, or living life as others tell us or prescribe. And if our life has to be like this, will we be okay?
What should we aim for ?
The reason for living is probably the main question we need to find the answer to: what is our life for?
Goals are part of the main reason we live, but many people miss this point. Not having goals or not setting goals means that life doesn’t know what to do next or can’t find reasons to drive their lives to be better.
Why don’t we try to set goals by doing something challenging for ourselves for once? Because having goals is not something to show off to anyone or put on a pedestal, but rather to be an answer to something we want.
So do we think we should have goals? And if so, for what purpose? If we are going to set any goals, we must always ask ourselves this question:
“What is the purpose of the goals we set? Do they serve our reason for being?”
It seems like a simple question, but if we ask ourselves and can’t figure out why we are doing that goal, it means that the goal we set may not be what we want or our true goal.
If it is really true, we must be able to answer immediately what the goal is for. Or if it is really true, we will not hesitate to take action. We will take action immediately without anyone ordering or demanding us to do it.
But if it’s not, no matter how much we set a goal, we won’t do it. Or if we do it, it won’t go all the way. We’ll stop after a while. This goal will be missed and become a flying target that floats on, never ending.
Are dreams and life goals the same thing?
Some people say that they have dreams, they want to be this, they want to be that. Is this considered a goal?
“Dreams can inspire you but goals can change your life”
“Dreams are there to inspire, but goals are there to produce results.” This is a pretty clear explanation of how dreams are different from goals. To make it easier to understand, let’s look at the differences between the two.
- Dreams are in the mind, but goals are the way to make our dreams come true : for example, if you want to be a doctor, you have to plan, set goals for studying and taking the exam to become a doctor, including plans for studying while becoming a doctor, such as what field you will study and what kind of doctor you will be.
- Dreams have no time frame, but goals have deadlines : For example, we often hear people talking about their dreams, about what they want to be or do, but as time passes, nothing happens. However, if the same person sets the same thing as a goal, he may succeed or at least make progress in that matter.
- Dreams do not require any investment or effort, but if you want a goal, you have to take action : for example, dreams are free, but you can only be happy in your dreams. If we want this to become true, we have to take action. For example, before you can enter the medical school entrance exam, you have to read books. Before you can become a doctor, you have to study for many more years. The path of this career, or any other career, requires sacrifice of physical and mental strength, dedication of time, and possibly money as well.
“Dreams don’t come true but Goals do.”
No dream can come true if we only dream. If we want our dreams to come true, we have to set goals and take action. In fact, we should have dreams, but we shouldn’t just dream. We should also turn those dreams into reality. At this point, we should probably start to differentiate between dreams and goals.
Don’t know what goals you should have or how to set goals?
Some people say that they don’t know what goals they should have or how to set goals.
In this matter, the admin himself cannot tell on behalf of the person asking what kind of goals he or she should have. Some people even go to ask a fortune teller. In reality, the fortune teller cannot tell. Even if they do, it will probably come from pure guesswork. The answer may be to please or just encourage the person asking.
Believe in yourself because goals are a personal matter. They are something that person has to determine for themselves because it is that person’s future. If it is about us, our future, our goals, who else will understand or know us better than us?
It may be because we don’t know our own hearts, it may be because we are not confident? Or shaken by other people’s words? Or have been criticized until it causes confusion. A simple advice that Amin often tells the younger ones who are facing this kind of problem is not to pay attention and not to listen to other people too much. They may not understand what we are interested in or the goal that we are going to.
Because if we have a clear goal, don’t be shaken by other people’s words. Because sometimes, they may not really wish us well (because if they really do, why would they say things to make us feel bad?). They may want to see us fail more than they want us to succeed. Therefore, don’t get caught in the game of those dream-crushers. It’s better to take the time to focus on your goals and what you need to do.
What is the best life goal?
This kind of question still comes up to the admin all the time. The admin would like to suggest something simple: choose any goal that we want to do, that is ourselves, but must be under the simple condition that “the goal must make us grow and be better than before.”
“Set Goal to Grow” is the simplest principle for setting goals in work or life.
So, let’s go back and review the work we’ve done in the past year. What are some things we want to improve? Choose 2-3 things. Then just set the Level or Goal for each thing to be moderately high (moderate means at a level of difficulty and challenge that makes us excited and want to do it).
It’s as simple as that, and it will give our lives a purpose. And if we take action on it, we will definitely be able to move forward and progress more than last year.
Finally, goals are meant to be broken, not shown off. Good luck to everyone, and may you all have exciting goals and achieve success.
