Thammasat University Hospital is a “hospital for the people.” This is something that the administrators give importance to, with the organization’s philosophy and the Thammasat identity that the people know. The organization can progress because of the personnel who walk together. Therefore, developing the organization’s people is something that the administrators give importance to in building the organization to be strong together. Policies from the administration are forwarded to the operators, and the benefits received are the “people” who come to use the services.
In the previous episode, everyone must have seen the depth behind the scenes that goes deeper than working in the medical field, such as human resource management. If medicine is about saving lives, human resource management is about maintaining the quality of people in the organization. Everyone must have seen that they work hard to select, care for, develop, and elevate personnel to the highest quality. Progressive organizations will be driven by quality personnel who are ready to progress.
We have arrived at the last point. The team behind the work of every department, every unit, and every personnel. The deepest behind the scenes that we cannot walk into the hospital and see their work, the team behind the work of the doctors, nurses, and personnel, they are the administration of Thammasat University Hospital. Today, we will get to know this team by honoring Asst. Prof. Dr. Apichart Kanittraphon, Deputy Director of Administration, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phruet To-udom, Director of Thammasat University Hospital, to talk and reveal the work of the administration.
“The most important thing that will make an organization progress is people.”

Human resources are an important part that will make the organization develop or progress. Mostly, no matter what organization, it will have to rely on human resources to drive the organization forward. Mostly, the new generation will have an easier time developing individuals than the old generation. Therefore, there are many new generations working at Thammasat University Hospital, so it is easier to develop the organization.
“IT is about the future.”
As you can see, technology in our world is constantly being developed. It is widely used in the medical field. Organizations that can utilize technology and innovation to their full potential will have a significant advantage. Therefore, the hospital needs new generations to fill this role. Other personnel must also adapt and update themselves, whether they are nurses or other multidisciplinary professionals. The hospital will try to instill IT for future benefits.
“If practitioners see the importance of caring for patients,
Dedicate yourself to medical care wholeheartedly, and medical care will be improved.”
Since Thammasat University Hospital is a medical school, it is necessary to update, change, and develop all the time. For example, since the COVID-19 outbreak began, it has been clearly observed that medical methods have changed all the time. In one year, there have been many changes in treatment. Skills must be developed, and doctors must be involved. Whenever the executives come up with a project, all doctors and personnel must cooperate. Because if they don’t do it, don’t cooperate, it probably won’t be successful.

“Chaos II”
COVID-19 is a huge crisis. For the hospital, this is the second time that we have had to face such a big crisis. The first time was when there was a major flood that almost forced the hospital to close. This time, we almost had to close the hospital to focus solely on treating COVID-19 patients. Chaos is something we cannot avoid. It is the first level we have to face before we can come together and cope with it.
“Understanding in all parts of the hospital”
In the first two months, we need to encourage each other, understand each other, and have participation, strength, and encouragement for each other in all sectors, from doctors, nurses, patients, and personnel in various offices, in order to make the hospital’s public health system work, especially since hospitals are the most important place in this COVID-19 crisis.
“Volunteer”
Another sector that clearly shows its role is the volunteers from Thammasat University personnel, students, and outsiders who are not involved with the hospital at all, but have kind hearts for the hospital and always offer assistance. This is an important factor that has helped the hospital get through this crisis.

“The most important thing, apart from work skills, development skills and IT skills, is ethics.”
The hospital is now trying to instill ethics in all staff because the hospital already knows that in taking care of patients, we don’t just focus on treatment, but we also emphasize medical ethics. Thammasat University Hospital is about to expand the size of the hospital and increase the number of beds, which means we have to hire more staff. Ethics is another quality that the hospital looks for in addition to skills and abilities.
“Supporting education is an important role beyond treating patients in hospitals.”
As a university hospital, the main mission is to support the teaching of various faculties, produce national-level personnel, whether in medicine, nursing, dentistry, public health, pharmacy, and allied health sciences. To support the education and development of the hospital, Thammasat University Hospital, which is currently a hospital with approximately 850 beds, has a goal of increasing the number of beds to more than 1,000 to accommodate more patients and help increase the efficiency of teaching.

“Equal quality of care in all cases”
Everyone will see that the hospital is conducting research on various diseases that are difficult to treat or complicated to treat all the time. This will go hand in hand with the process that makes the treatment of difficult and complicated diseases have equal quality of treatment, regardless of what the treatment rights are or what the status is. Coming to Thammasat University Hospital will make the level of care for everyone equal in terms of quality. If they come in, what is the chance of being cured? What are the complications? Everyone will receive the same in every case.
“This point is considered a starting point, although it is not the starting point.”
Thammasat University Hospital has made an effort to support the country in terms of research and innovation. During this period, COVID-19 is a good indicator of innovation, whether it is a field hospital or Home Isolation. The hospital has tried to use these as the main principles in caring for, managing, and developing the hospital. This point is considered a starting point. Although it is not the starting point, it is a good goal to make research and innovation a part of driving the hospital.
Conclusion
What we clearly see is the expansion of the hospital’s services in areas that no staff has ever done before, such as the field hospital, the first hospital, Home Isolation, and Thammasat University’s vaccination center. These are missions that the hospital manages. The hospital’s staff are proud to be called Thammasat University Hospital. Everyone tries to support and push each other. When there is an emergency that requires cooperation, the staff here are always there without discrimination. Everyone is together with their hearts, doing things with their hearts, and serving the public with their hearts.
Thammasat University Hospital has one thing that unites everyone, which is the Thammasat spirit in doing things for the people. After the COVID-19 crisis, the hospital has set a goal to join forces with all personnel to make Thammasat University Hospital a hospital that truly serves the people.
