Because of the use of emotions in life and work of many people that has caused many people to encounter problems and reach a dead end simply because of the lack of emotional control skills and lack of reason, which we can see from many examples. Today, we often see problems of people quarreling in newspapers or other media.
Whether it is caused by cutting each other off or speaking rudely to each other or causing conflicts, which in some cases escalate to the point of having to go to court, these problems all have their roots in controlling emotions.
Problems with emotional control can happen to anyone and in any profession.
Especially if they are famous people, such as actors, singers, athletes, or people who have to be in the media’s spotlight, they are more likely to get their nuts loose or be provoked into having emotional problems than the average person.
In the latest case, the Thai national football team player “Sarawat Dechmitr” had to face a problem due to his lack of emotional control in the 2019 Toyota Thai League football match, match 11, between Port FC and True Bangkok on May 18, 2019.

Sarawut, the main midfielder of the Thai national team, aged 29 years old and a football player in the True Bangkok team, received a red card and was sent off the field in the 90+3 minute (extra time) because he behaved inappropriately, intentionally kicking the ball out of the field and coming back into the field after the game even though he had already been sent off. What’s worse is that Sarawut punched the referee in the stomach before he was sent off the field.
The result was that Sarawut was banned for a total of 8 matches and fined 120,000 baht. It can be said that he really made a mistake because of using emotions.
In this case, the impact will not only affect Sarawut alone.
His club, True Bangkok, had to pay him for free but he didn’t have to play. But that’s not much. What’s more concerning is that he had to miss 8 matches with his main midfielder, which will definitely affect his score and ranking in the competition.
His life and career were immediately affected. Whether he was selected for the national team or other issues, there might be consequences. Because of his image and the problems he caused, it might affect his future football career.
Or another case is a famous former football player, “Eric Cantona”, a famous former star of Manchester United in the past.

The incident occurred on January 25, 1995, in a match between Crystal Palace and Manchester United. On that day, an unexpected incident occurred. It was Eric Cantona’s hot-headed moment after he was pulled by Richard Shaw, a player for Crystal Palace, which made him unhappy and he turned to kick Cantona back, causing the referee to give Eric a red card and send him off the field.
But the situation escalated when, as Cantona was walking off the pitch, a Crystal Palace fan named Matthew Simmons ran down from the upper stands to scold Cantona, saying, “You idiot, go back to France, you idiot Frenchman.”
After Cantona heard this, he felt a nut come loose, ran and jumped to kick Matthew Simmons and threw a series of punches. The consequences of that action caused Eric Cantona to be banned from competing for 9 months along with having to do 120 hours of community service and being fined 10,000 pounds. As for the other party, Matthew Simmons, he was fined 500 pounds, imprisoned for 7 days and banned from entering the football field for 1 year.
It had a great impact on his life and work. His life was ruined by his emotions because after Cantona was banned for 9 months, Manchester United’s performance was noticeably weaker and declined. In that season, Manchester United ultimately missed out on the Premier League title.
Have you seen the results of not controlling your emotions? “It damages your career, image, opportunities, and affects the club’s performance.” This doesn’t just affect one person, but also the people around you and the organization you work for.
These two examples show that whenever we are in such a situation, we need to practice more on our ability to control our emotions.
Because releasing anger or rage does not benefit us or anyone. It only makes things worse.
Nowadays, especially in the sports industry, Emotional Intelligence skills have been used as an important part in developing the skills of athletes, including competition results.
Emotional intelligence skills
It will help athletes to be aware, understand their emotions and be able to control their emotions better. The result is that athletes can play well under pressure or in tense competitions. Problems with team relationships are improved and problems with bad behavior with teammates or the opposing team are significantly reduced.
Teams with emotional intelligence skills perform significantly better. It has also been found that athletes who are successful at the top level of the league are all found to have emotional intelligence skills.
Even though we are not world-class athletes, we have seen how scary emotions can be and how they can have negative effects on us and others if we cannot control them.
We can learn how to control our emotions, or emotional intelligence skills, right away. No matter how old we are, we can learn these things.
“So that we can become the masters of our emotions” and move towards using more reason to drive our lives.
So that we don’t have to end our future by wasting money, time or being unemployed because of emotional abuse.
