Are we bored at work? Do we know why we are bored? Because many times, boredom at work may be the result of our emotional state, which is caused by taking small problems or small annoyances from our coworkers to ruin our mood.
Emotions are another cause of boredom because when it comes to work, there are many different emotions hidden within.
For example, some days we feel excited and passionate about our work, but the next day we feel so bored that we want to quit.
We are bored with our work. What are the possible causes?
Habit is another thing that seems like a good thing, but habit or familiarity can also easily create boredom. Because whenever we, as employees, work in one place for a while, such as about two years or more, we will find that the feeling of being bored with our work tends to come and happen frequently. We will let it slip that we are bored with the work we do more often than in the first few years.
Because we have already passed the Honeymoon Period or the initial trial period, the adjustment period, which is the most exciting period of working in the first year. The feelings of liking or excitement that we used to have are gone, making us accustomed to it and lethargic instead.
But the problem of boredom may not disappear easily because the cause of boredom is not just us alone. There are also other factors that come from the atmosphere, environment, and people in the workplace.
So how do we know when we are bored with our job and need to look for a change?
When it comes to feeling bored at work, it’s not difficult to observe yourself by looking at the following symptoms.
Monday sickness
Monday blues often occur on Sunday nights. Our feeling is that we often feel depressed and do not want time to pass quickly or do not want Monday morning to arrive because Monday is the day we have to go to work.
The images in our minds, the set of experiences, are all the same old images, a boring atmosphere, without excitement. Sometimes we think about the faces of the group of people who make us bored, we feel even more bored, to the point of wanting to get sick so that we can take sick leave so that we don’t have to go to work, etc.
Friday Night Syndrome or Holiday Syndrome
After starting the first day of the work week, before the day is over, we already yearn for a holiday. A simple symptom that occurs is that we often complain to ourselves or some of our colleagues that when will Friday come quickly, we want the work time to pass quickly.
But in reality, the feeling that we have is why does time pass so slowly during each working day? Or the feeling of working day by day without energy, along with complaining and yearning for a day off, especially if there are many long holidays in a month, we will look forward to it even more.
Political sickness
When the boredom level reaches its peak, because of the boredom to the point of not wanting to come to work in the first place, when feeling a little sick, it will be seen as an opportunity, an excuse to ask for sick leave to rest at home, becoming a sick person.
But doing this continuously may create risks for your career or your own advancement. Because people who are sick and often take leave often end up being seen as not doing their best or not being dedicated to the organization.
For some people, they feel that even taking leave, whether it is sick leave or vacation leave, has one positive effect: taking many leave days to do work at home, and finding that the results are better than working at work. Or it may be possible that the atmosphere in the workplace does not attract creativity or encourage a desire to work.
Especially now, the arrival of COVID has made many organizations accept Work From Home or Work From Anywhere more. Therefore, if the working conditions are already like this, there is no need to be politically ill.
People sickness
In terms of boredom, the most serious thing from the admin’s point of view is boredom with people, which is the most worrisome thing. It is possible that boredom may be caused by boredom with the boss or boredom with some coworkers.
This type of problem is mostly caused by ideas, working methods or working styles that may not match, or we may not get along with most people in the workplace, which causes more problems than results.
Therefore, learning about working methods or working styles with others, especially with colleagues and bosses, may help us adapt more easily. However, it may not be easy for some people, especially those who do not like to adapt or do not like change. The result may be having to endure boredom.
“How does boredom or boredom affect us?”
Boredom or boredom can easily make us lose our motivation to work.
Boredom can make us numb, and boredom can make us not want to develop ourselves because we think that even if we develop, it will be useless because we do not expect or want anything that will lead to growth and progress, etc.
Boredom is a dangerous sign that can turn a person who was once capable, inspired, and determined into someone who is easily irritated, moody, or lacks self-confidence.
“Changing behavior in your life may be one way to solve the problem.”
But it may be just a temporary solution because if we still have to face problems or factors that cause boredom from other matters,
For example, boredom with people, bored with coworkers, bored with the boss, or an uninviting atmosphere in our workplace. Therefore, it is quite difficult to get ourselves out of this cycle of boredom.
If we are faced with all these diseases and have tried to change our behavior, but we still feel bored, it is time for us to decide to change jobs.
Changing jobs helps because it breaks the boring cycle and allows you to start something new, something exciting, something challenging, and something with new opportunities.
“But don’t forget that changing jobs is just another option.”
Because once we have worked in a new place for a while, we may return to the boring cycle or get bored with the job again. We may have to find a new job or move again.
At some point, we can’t change jobs forever (ultimately, changing jobs can’t solve the boredom problem). We have to find other ways to relieve boredom, such as finding a new hobby, studying something we want to study, doing new activities with new people, or exercising can also help.
Boredom from work is not as scary as making ourselves boring.
Because whenever we are still like this, we will never be able to get ourselves out of the boring cycle again. Because whenever we are bored with our work, this is a sign that we need to look for a change.
So please end this boring cycle as soon as possible, otherwise we will become permanently boring people.
