Time management Have you ever wondered how talented people manage their time? With the same amount of time, one person can manage to do many things, produce quality work, and finish it on time.
But another person who has the same amount of time and is given the same amount of work, cannot complete the work on time, and the work that is given is not of good quality.
“Whoever manages their time and plans their work better has a better chance of achieving success in their work.”
Time management is another important skill that will measure the efficiency, potential and ability of people, whether any person or group is more efficient and can create better results in a limited time.
Time management has therefore become an important skill for all professions and for everyone.
Because we are in an era where the amount of work and complexity of work is higher than in the past. In addition, many times the work we do has to face the impact of external factors, whether it is competition, changing customer needs, or others, making time management and work management more difficult and challenging.
“One thing that everyone definitely has in common is time, but not everyone uses it wisely.”
Since everyone has limited time, the question is, what can we do? How can we use the time we have to work effectively, with quality, and finish on time or before the deadline, without stress, fear, and pressure?
Speaking like this makes it seem like this is an easy task, but in reality, why can’t many people do it?
“Our own attitudes and behaviors are the main problems that prevent us from managing our time.”
When we manage our time poorly or not at all, the result is that we have to work on various things or in each day using more time than we should. For example, this type of work, other people or the general public in our workplace may take an average of 3 hours to do, but for us, who are people who do not manage our time well, it may drag on for 4-6 hours.
Don’t misunderstand that working hard and finishing work late means being diligent or capable.
Leaving work late and frequently bringing work home to do shows that we have problems with time management and life management.
What are the consequences?
Work is completed slowly, work quality is problematic, and quality of life is deteriorating because of having to work longer each day, such as having to work overtime, returning home late, not having enough time to rest, and not having time for family, etc.
“Why can’t people manage their time effectively?”
When “Work Life, when there is no balance, it is difficult to be happy.” Let’s look at what behaviors affect time management.
“There is no goal or you don’t understand the goal of your work or the assigned tasks.”
If you work aimlessly and without a goal, how will you know how much time you will need to work? It’s like driving a car without knowing where you are going, and just driving around in circles, wasting gas.
It is the same with work. If we do not understand the purpose of the work, it will be difficult to evaluate and plan the work. Some people are worse off, misinterpreting it, wasting a lot of time doing unimportant and unnecessary things, wasting energy and resources, resulting in ineffective results and risks of losing their job.
“I got the job but there was no good planning.”
Know the goal, know the purpose of the work, but do not plan or plan loosely but rush to do it, which may also waste energy in vain.
Every job, we may encounter a deadline with limited time. No matter how much or how little the work is, we must plan well before starting. At least we will know and be informed early on what we need to prepare or who needs to ask for help, etc. Don’t leave it until the last minute to think about planning because by then it will be too late.
“I like to think that there is not enough time.”
Many people, regardless of whether they receive a lot or a little work, whether it is difficult or easy, are always ready to complain that there is not enough time. They often think that there is too little time. This kind of attitude is a symptom of people with a fixed mindset, which means they believe that everything will definitely have problems. They think that they will definitely not finish the work even though they have not looked at the work and have not even planned it in advance.
Complaining like this is like accepting and stigmatizing yourself as incapable of managing your work. How will you progress and grow in your career in the future? If you can’t even do this kind of work.
“Habit: likes to be late”
This is a personal behavior that lacks discipline and lacks consideration for others, leading to behaviors that are not punctual, such as often waking up late, doing unimportant things more often than important things, coming to work late, entering meetings late, submitting work late, etc.
They think that being a little bit late shouldn’t have much impact on anyone or the organization because everyone can be late. If the cause of being late is an unavoidable event and doesn’t happen often, it’s okay. But if it happens repeatedly, this is a permanent behavior of people, which is difficult to fix because being late has become a habit that person has.
“There are so many stimuli all around.”
There are many non-productive activities that are ready to disturb and make us not want to work at all times. Activities such as watching movies, listening to music, playing social media or talking with friends about things that are not related to work are all activities that affect and encroach on the time that we need to use for work.
Even though we work hard, we can take some time to relax, but we shouldn’t take time off from work to do unimportant things for too long, so long that there is not enough time to finish the work on time. This can also damage us and our work.
“Let’s put it off for now, or wait a bit. We can do it closer to the delivery date.”
This symptom is procrastination, which is a dangerous habit of people that has a great impact on time management. They like to work close to the deadline, which leaves them with insufficient time to review or not enough time to produce quality work. Working too hard close to the deadline can create unnecessary stress and pressure.
From the above examples, it can be seen that poor time management has an impact on our careers, the work we do, and our personal lives.
In addition, some of the problems that cause accumulated stress, anxiety, or lack of confidence are also a result of a lack of time management skills.
Therefore, time management skills are important and can be practiced by all of us. We should start practicing them now that we know that we have problems with time management.
By practicing to be the master of time, with simple methods of starting by reducing, abandoning and quitting these behaviors that encroach on time from today, we will become a skilled person who can manage time well as well.
